Gordon’s 50th cap

November 23, 2010 in General, News

gdarcy_01Clongowes Wood College old boy Gordon D’Arcy has won his 50th cap for Ireland. He has played (at full back, wing and centre back) on Lions’ tours to New Zealand and South Africa, and regularly on the Leinster team. He was an outstanding player at school,  representing both the Leinster schools and the Ireland schools teams. He was on the Clongowes  team which won the Senior Cup in 1998, coached by the legendary Vinny Murray who died in 2000 – Gordon attributes his successes largely  to Vinny’s coaching. Pictured here, left to right, are Des Dillon Captain of the 1998 Senior Cup Team, Vinny’s widow Deirdre (a nurse in Clongowes), and Gordon D’Arcy. Read Wikipedia on Gordon D’Arcy here.
