Statement on the occasion of the death of Fr Michael Melvin SVD

John Dardis SJ, Irish jesuit Provincial

I was very saddened to hear of the  death of Fr Michael Melvin SVD, founder-director of Kairos Communications. He  died unexpectedly on Tuesday September 9th.

Fr Michael was a deeply spiritual man committed to promoting Gospel values through modern media and technology and doing it to the highest possible standards. He believed strongly in the professional media training of young people and Kairos was recognized within the broadcasting industry as a source of qualified and competently trained young people.

He was also a good friend of the Jesuits in Ireland and produced two DVDs on the life of Fr John Sullivan SJ, working closely with Edmund  O Keefe SJ and Conor Harper SJ. He was held in high regard by all who came in contact with knew him and I was privileged to have known and worked with such an exceptional human being. He will be sadly missed and on behalf of the Jesuit Order here I extend my deepest sympathy to his family, friends and the Divine Word Order.
