Gerry Whelan SJ, lecturer in theology at the Gregorian University in Rome, speaks with Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications about Mary McAleese’s latest criticism on Pope Francis at the Voices of Faith International Women’s Day Conference on 8 March 2018.

While the Jesuit agrees with what the former President of Ireland said in her speech in the Jesuit Curia in Rome, he feels that tone is very important in trying to effect real change.

He also says that to really appreciate what Pope Francis is trying to do one has to come to understand his ‘method’, or way of proceeding which is very different from that of previous Popes.
