The Messenger Publications Autumn 2022 Catalogue » offers several new books dealing with topics such as prayer and scripture reflection, care for our common home, and the lives of inspirational Christians. Below are just a few books that may interest the reader.

Sacred Space: The Prayer Book 2023 » collates the material and resources of Sacred Space, the popular prayer website, in one volume and presents the reader with a complete guide to a year of prayer. Each day includes scripture readings and points of reflection, as well as a weekly topic enhanced by six steps of prayer and reflection. In facilitating a loving encounter with God, Sacred Space helps people to read the Bible in a deeper way so that they can receive it as the Word of God.

Published in Ireland and the UK by Messenger Publications, Sacred Space: The Prayer Book 2023 is now available. The prayers and reflections are written by members of the Irish Province of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. It is priced at €14.95/£12.95.

The Parish as Oasis: An Introduction to Practical Environmental Care » is a practical and accessible introduction to how local churches can contribute to healing the environmental crisis. By focusing on practical ‘experiments’ that any parish can explore according to their own context and capacities, this book seeks to equip people with a hands-on understanding of the ideas unpacked in Laudato Si’ (the Pope’s encyclical on the environment).

The book consists of three parts: an introductory essay that situates the theological vision of the book, a practical array of experiments that congregations can undertake to care for our common home, and a conclusion pointing people to further resources.

It aspires to inspire people to get their hands dirty, but also plants the initiatives within a coherent eco-theology.

The Parish as Oasis by Dr Kevin Hargaden and Dr Ciara Murphy of the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice is available on backorder. It is priced at €14.95/£12.95.

The Mindful Our Father by Thomas G Casey SJ enables people to reflect on the Lord’s Prayer at a slower pace in order to help them recognise something of its richness. Each chapter approaches a particular phrase of the Our Father from multiple perspectives to facilitate a deepening level of engagement.

Moving stories throw a new spotlight on the marvellous riches concealed in this familiar prayer. It is thought that once people translate the spiritual wisdom of the Lord’s Prayer into the personal language of their experience, they shall be led to a unique encounter – with the God who yearns for people more than they could ever yearn for him.

Author of eight books, Thomas G Casey SJ recently left the world of academia after twenty years of lecturing in Italy, Israel and Ireland. He is now working in a Jesuit school with young people who wish to change the world.

The Mindful Our Father is priced at €19.95/£18.95.
