Belvedere’s Gift to ‘Knock

June 9, 2009 in General, News

oliver_01.jpgOliver Murphy worked in Gonzaga as a boy and Belvedere as a teacher, so both schools will have felt some pride in his appointment as Headmaster of Castleknock College. Oliver, who has two Jesuit uncles (Paul Andrews and the late Geoffrey Murphy), has written highly-regarded text-books in Mathematics and Applied Maths at Junior and Leaving Certificate level, both honours and pass. Over the years he has shepherded student groups to Greece – Greek was his second subject – and established a museum in Belvedere with a special focus on World War I. More recently readers (AMDG Express: 28.10.08) will remember his enthusiastic direction of the Transition Year as a time of huge potential for turning teenagers into men. He is delighted with what he sees of Castleknock.
