Colm Brophy SJ, currently working with JUST Ballymun, led a session on ‘The Dreamer as Artist’ at a conference marking the close of the art exhibition of Maria Place, Ballymun resident and TCD M.Phil. Candidate in Psychoanalysis. Over 50 people attended the event in the Axis art and community resource centre in Main Street, Ballymun, Dublin 9 on Wednesday 26 January. Lifelong analyst and senior lecturer at TCD, Ross Skelton, spoke about the Freudian interpretation of dreams and Maria Place spoke about the influence of her dreams on her artwork. As an art psychotherapist, Colm Brophy chose an experiential approach to his session, leading the group into an exploration of their own dreams. He also exhibited some of his own work, demonstrating how he mediated his dreams into his own art.
