Introducing Ricci to schools

October 26, 2010 in General, News

ricci_01The Jesuit Communications Centre has published an education pack for Junior cycle religion and history students, as the final part of the commemoration celebrations of Matteo Ricci SJ. 2010 is the 400th anniversary of the death of the extraordinary Jesuit missionary to China. John McHugh, a teacher, has written and compiled the pack, bringing alive the memory of Ricci for a new generation, with special reference to his missionary activity and his immersion in Chinese life and culture. As a resource for teachers, it includes biographical handouts that recount Ricci’s life and mission, and worksheets which assess and consolidate the students’ learning. The JCC is sending every second-level school in Ireland a specially commissioned Ricci poster and details of how to access the pack online. To view the pack click here.
