Sons of Ignatius podcast: Care of God’s creation

May 18, 2022 in News

American Jesuit Fr Dave Lugo and Irish Jesuit Fr Niall Leahy catch up after Easter and dive into Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on the care of creation. They maintain that if we are going to be disciples that care for the Earth, then we need to see clearly, judge wisely, and act justly.

In his opening remarks, Fr Niall says: “It was my first Holy Week and Easter working as a priest and I have to say our ceremonies just flowed very nicely. I just had a sense of each day flowing into the next. We had beautiful music and lots of involvement from the parishioners.”

Fr Niall proposed that the conversation be inspired according to the structure of the Pope’s encyclical: “The six chapters are basically organised according to the dynamic of ‘See, Judge, Act’, so that the first chapter is really about seeing what’s happening in the world. Like shining a light on the phenomena of how our ecosystems et cetera are breaking down…”
